The Airplane were the biggest rock group in America during the 1960s and the first San Francisco band to sign a major record deal, paving the way for other legends like Grateful Dead and Janis Joplin. They headlined the original Woodstock Festival in 1969 and, like The Beatles with whom they are critically compared, lasted a mere 7 years, though their influence and impact on rock music continues well into the 21st century. In 1974 Mr. Kantner created Jefferson Starship and again enjoyed chart-topping success. Paul and Jefferson Airplane were inducted into The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1996, the same year as Pink Floyd.

Annual 26.4nm ocean race from St. Simons Island (GA) to Amelia Island (FL), hosted by the Amelia Island Sailing Club. Registration is required for this race by clicking on the race listing on the Events Page on the AISC Website. Registration is now open and both the NOR and SI are posted. The race is open to all sea-worthy, self-righting and insured monohull sailboats, and sailing club affiliation is not a requirement. PHRF ratings are required preferably from First Coast Sailing Association (FCSA) or the AISC Race Committee will assign a PHRF Rating. The race starts in the St. Simons Channel and ends in the St. Marys River Channel. Spinnaker and Non-spinnaker classes. Trophies for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers in each class. Makeup Dates - if the race needs to be postponed, the makeup date is Saturday, November 07. The NOR includes marina reservation information for Morningstar Marina on St. Simons Island and for Fernandina Harbor Marina on Amelia Island.

AISC will have a booth at the Festival again! We hope to raise awareness of our environmentally centered Club membership by participating. We will be looking for volunteers to man the booth over the weekend. Stay tuned. The Fernandina Beach Right Whale Festival celebrates the annual return of endangered North Atlantic right whales to the warm coastal waters off northeast Florida and Georgia, where they give birth to and nurse their young. With less than 370 remaining, this family fun event raises awareness of the threats to right whales and how we can help in their recovery. The festival highlights efforts to protect these whales from extinction, as well as ocean-themed activities and exhibits that emphasize education and environmentally responsible adventures and products. Free Admission - Come early and spend the day! Contact Event Coordinator, Alison Deeb to get involved!

Our Annual Thanksgiving Potluck will be held at Tiger Point on Tuesday, November 17th at 5:30pm The club will be providing the turkey (prepared by members). We ask members to bring a dish to share to create a full family-style delicious meal. Members with last name beginning with A-L please bring sides. Members with last name beginning with M-Z please bring desserts. We ask that all members who would like to attend please RSVP no later than Wednesday, November 11th. We need an accurate count as we are limited to our seating and need to ensure we provide the correct amount of turkey. Currently, guests (other than spouse/partners) will be waitlisted until the RSVP window is closed to make sure we accommodate all our members. **Because we are at Tiger Point, you will need to bring your own beverage of choice (including cups). Social hour begins at 5:30pm with dinner and annual awards to follow around 6:00pm.
